Powerage, situated between the two monuments of Let There Be Rock and Highway To Hell, has often been overshadowed, becoming the least talked-about of the three albums. However, it would be unfair to underestimate this record. AC/DC is in top form at this time, with their recognizable style and some of their best songs on this album. In 1978, AC/DC had just achieved success with Let There Be Rock and stole the show from all the bands opening for them (Black Sabbath, Kiss, Reo Speedwagon, Rush…). They quickly composed the successor to Let There Be Rock (as early as July 1977). The album was recorded live in just three weeks, with George Young and Harry Vanda producing. It also marks the debut of bassist Cliff Williams, who remains one of the three pillars of the band along with Angus Young and Brian Johnson. Despite not being as commercially successful as their previous and subsequent albums, Powerage is regarded by fans as one of AC/DC’s most underrated albums, with Eddie Van Halen and Keith Richards citing it as their favorite AC/DC album. It is also considered to be Bon Scott’s most accomplished work as a lyricist.
