“We Got By” was a good introduction, but Al Jarreau’s immense talent demanded more. Seeking a worthy showcase, a second album was quickly released to capitalize on the momentum. The result, “Glow,” showcases Jarreau’s scatting prowess, with him delivering lightning-fast vocal acrobatics. The songs, ranging from blues rock to sensuous bossa nova, feature polished arrangements and subtle yet powerful performances from musicians like Larry Carlton. While half the album consists of covers, Jarreau’s compositions still shine, particularly “Agua de Beber.” The record’s standout is a cover of Elton John’s track, although it lacks the original’s flamboyance.
