Captivated by the recent success of director Remo Forlani, BARBARA commissions him to create an original work, “Madame,” blending theater and music hall. The story follows a Parisian girl turned prostitute in decolonizing Africa who discovers love with an Italian. Despite recognizable writing and psychedelic arrangements, the show struggles to captivate the audience. The songs from “Madame” are eventually recorded in a short album, produced in 1970, marking a unique interlude in BARBARA’s career, characterized by daring themes and innovative arrangements.
