Bob Dylan had never had his own handpicked band for tours until the Rolling Thunder Revue came to life, featuring a vibrant group of musicians he encountered in Greenwich Village. They began recording in July 1975, culminating in the release of “Desire” in early 1976, followed by a massive U.S. tour. This album marked Dylan’s shift into his “bohemian period,” shedding his folk image for a celestial gypsy persona. Notably, “Hurricane” showcased his signature lyrical power accompanied by a unique instrumental fusion. “Isis” was another standout. However, the album had some less inspired moments, especially tracks like “One More Cup Of Coffee” and “Romance In Durango.” While not matching the brilliance of “Blood On The Tracks,” “Desire” remains a solid album, with its true strength lying in a few exceptional compositions.
