Luxe (1973 – at the Théâtre Le Palace), a refined show in the form of a tribute to the Music-Hall often tending towards parody, offered him the opportunity to write among his finest music. Unlike Étoile du Nord (written mainly for piano, violin, cello and clarinet), the Luxe score naturally appeals to a large orchestra and does not hesitate to incorporate a choir of “boys” in the sumptuous finale saluting different musical styles. (jazz, music hall, large chorale with even an interlude pasticating contemporary music: from Bartok to Berio via Stravinsky).
