French 1979 pressing.

Released after the excellent self-titled Dire Straits debut, which exuded raw rock in a woodsy, bluesy ambiance, and preceding “Making Movies,” with its grandiosity featuring keyboards and pop textures, “Communiqué” strikes a balance between both worlds. The production is crisper, the atmosphere retains a touch of Western rock, yet the songs are more intricate, diverse, and ambitious. With Knopfler’s signature vocals and guitar, along with Pick Withers’ refined drumming, this album is a gem. While it lacks a standout single like “Sultans of Swing,” the album maintains consistent quality from start to finish.
