La légende de “El Pampero” est bien connue, fruit d’une nuit d’improvisation mémorable au festival de Montreux en 1971, bien que seule une fraction du concert ait été préservée. De retour en Europe, Gato Barbieri emmène avec lui une partie de son orchestre, incluant Lonnie Liston Smith et Nana Vasconcelos. Malgré l’improvisation de dernière minute pour former un nouveau groupe, comprenant même le batteur d’Aretha Franklin, l’harmonie qui émane de ces musiciens est prodigieuse. The legend of “El Pampero” is well known, born from a memorable night of improvisation at the 1971 Montreux Festival, although only a fraction of the concert was preserved. Back in Europe, Gato Barbieri takes with him part of his orchestra, including Lonnie Liston Smith and Nana Vasconcelos. Despite last-minute improvisation to form a new group, including even Aretha Franklin’s drummer, the harmony emanating from these musicians is prodigious. Their exemplary playing and listening skills demonstrate remarkable talent. A palpable symbiosis between Barbieri and his counterparts creates a festive atmosphere, inviting the audience to dance.
