Gato Barbieri’s album is a stunning work that incorporates more traditional forms while maintaining the exploratory and intense quality that characterized most of his early 70s recordings. With long, adventurous tracks, Gato plays with his signature tremendous tenor tone, a blend of Pharoah and late Coltrane, along with some emotive, sentimental touches that add depth to the performance. The other musicians on the album include George Dalto on electric and acoustic piano, Pretty Purdie on drums, and Paul Metzke on guitar, with added Latin percussion on most tracks that imbues them with a lively rhythmic groove.
