This project, initiated in 1983 after a promise to Count Basie, brings George Benson into the big-band realm, showcasing his skills as a guitarist and vocalist. Backed by the Basie band, Benson’s guitar work is compelling, and his vocals harmonize well with Carmen Bradford on “How Do You Keep the Music Playing?” Despite two deviations from the format in the album, including an electronic dance number and an orchestral track, Benson’s control over his music is evident, leading to a conservative yet talent-highlighting direction.
