The resurgence of Breton culture in the early 1970s, largely credited to Alan Stivell and Tri Yann, actually traces its origins to the late 1950s, when key figures like Glenmor, Loeiz Ropars, the Goadec Sisters, and the MORVAN Brothers began revitalizing Breton traditions. Amidst Brittany’s struggling state, GLENMOR, born Milig ar Skañv, emerged as a potent advocate for his endangered culture, challenging the repression of the Breton language and fostering a musical revival. Despite initial challenges and controversies, Glenmor’s debut album “Cet Amour-là” served as a powerful manifesto, showcasing his impassioned voice and lyrics addressing societal issues. This album marked the start of a transformative movement, paving the way for a new generation of engaged Breton musicians like Gilles Servat and Alan Stivell.
