In 1971, Dan Hamilton, Joe Frank Carollo, and Tommy Reynolds, under the guidance of co-producer Steve Barri, had a Top Five hit with “Don’t Pull Your Love Out.” The Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds album is a blend of adult contemporary rock and country-pop with Spanish influences. The album features sophisticated songwriting by young songwriters with all titles clocking in under three minutes. The album’s concept merges the styles of the Grass Roots and Three Dog Night, but it does have some misfires. Larry Knechtel on keyboards and the background vocals by Venetta Fields, Maxine Willard, and Ginger Blake add to the album’s musicality, making it an important record that deserves more credit.
