After the disappointing “Ball” album, Iron Butterfly needed to regain their rock credibility, and releasing a live album seemed like a solution to reassure their fans. The artwork attempted to convey this message, and while starting with three tracks from “Ball” was a gamble, they chose the two best ones that fit their style. The third track from “Ball” was also improved in this version. The live album, recorded with decent sound quality for its time, features some classics, but doesn’t offer much new. It likely served as both confirmation of their rock status and a way to keep fans patient during a lineup change. Not essential for prog fans, but still worth a listen.
