“Champagne…” and “Caviar…”: two albums bundled together, featuring all the tracks that would establish Higelin’s reputation. “Caviar…” serves as an introduction, a prelude, presenting a departure from Higelin’s previous album, “No Man’s Land,” evident from the eccentric track “Mama Nouvelle Orléans.” It kicks off with a passionate rock sound, almost bordering on hard rock, as seen in “Trois tonnes de T.N.T.” These are completely unhinged, vibrant pieces, yet Jacques consistently delivers magnificent songs, such as “Ci-gît une star,” which provides a moment of tranquility. It’s apparent that Higelin was heavily influenced by Bo Diddley at some point, especially when you listen to “Avec la rage en d’dans,” where the rhythms closely resemble Diddley’s iconic beat.
