Le trio composé d’Aurora, Imaginary Voyage et Enigmatic Ocean représente une fusion mélodique essentielle. Alors qu’Enigmatic Ocean est souvent considéré comme le summum de la composition et de l’interprétation de Ponty, mettant en vedette des musiciens exceptionnels comme Allan Holdsworth et Ralphe Armstrong, Aurora est quelque peu négligé, malgré l’excellent travail de guitare de Daryl Stuermer tant sur le plan acoustique qu’électrique. L’absence des claviers et synthétiseurs flottants d’Allan Zavod distingue Aurora, qui repose davantage sur le Rhodes et le piano, conférant à l’album un son élégant plutôt que futuriste. Bien que dépourvu des influences funk et des rythmes typiques du style de Ponty, Aurora dégage un charme subtil avec ses tonalités romantiques et mélancoliques, en faisant une œuvre marquante dans la répertoire de Ponty.

The trio of Aurora, Imaginary Voyage, and Enigmatic Ocean represents essential melodic fusion. While Enigmatic Ocean is often regarded as Ponty’s pinnacle in songwriting and playing, featuring masterful musicians like Allan Holdsworth and Ralphe Armstrong, Aurora is somewhat overlooked, despite the stellar guitar work by Daryl Stuermer on both acoustic and electric fronts. The absence of Allan Zavod’s floating keyboards and synths distinguishes Aurora, which relies more on Rhodes and piano, lending the album a classy sound rather than a futuristic one. Although lacking funk influences and grooves typical of Ponty’s style, Aurora exudes a subtle charm with its romantic and melancholic undertones, making it a standout in Ponty’s repertoire.
