Following the global success of “Oxygene,” Jean Michel Jarre reaffirms his prowess as a musician, composer, and conceptual artist with the two-part album, “Equinoxe.” In line with its concept representing the 24 hours of a day, the first part unfolds as an extended awakening, featuring ethereal sections and escalating rhythms. Synthetic layers create a dense musical cloud reminiscent of dream fog, while “Equinoxe II” offers a soothing serenity with effects embraced by a mellotron. “Equinoxe III” presents a clear and cosmic movement, followed by the intricate and harmonious anthem of “Equinoxe IV,” framed by captivating effects. “Equinoxe V” begins with rhythmic thunder and cosmic organ solos, evolving into “Equinoxe VI” and “VII” with changing tempos and ever-evolving synthetic textures. The two-headed musical serpent fades into the cosmic mist of “Equinoxe VIII,” concluding this superb album, acknowledging its sole flaw of being preceded by “Oxygene.”
