Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the film explores the Roaring Twenties amid segregation, prohibition, and gang conflicts. The cast includes Richard Gere as a white trumpeter in love with Diane Lane and Gregory Hines as a black tap dancer. John Barry’s task was to create a soundtrack integrating Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway’s jazz pieces and replicating the era’s orchestral sound.
