En 1973, George Lucas a écrit un conte intitulé « Les Aventures d’Indiana Smith », s’inspirant des films d’aventures des années 1930 et 1940. Lors de vacances à Hawaï avec Steven Spielberg, Lucas a présenté l’histoire, convainquant Spielberg de réaliser une trilogie. Sur la suggestion de Spielberg, le nom a été changé pour Jones et Lawrence Kasdan a été embauché comme scénariste. Malgré le rejet d’Hollywood en raison du coût et des exigences de Lucas, Paramount a repris le projet, avec Frank Marshall à la production. Après un processus de casting difficile, Spielberg a persuadé Lucas de choisir Harrison Ford dans le rôle d’Indiana Jones, aux côtés d’autres acteurs notables. Se déroulant en 1936, l’histoire suit Jones dans sa quête pour récupérer l’Arche d’Alliance des mains des nazis. Le film, un triomphe commercial et critique, a donné naissance à une franchise de quatre films. La musique de John Williams, soulignée par l’emblématique « Raiders March », capture parfaitement l’esprit aventureux, l’intrigue romantique et le mystère surnaturel du film. In 1973, George Lucas penned a tale titled “The Adventures of Indiana Smith,” drawing inspiration from adventure films of the 1930s and 1940s.
