Quand son premier album est sorti en 1979, Laurent Voulzy, déjà âgé de trente ans, n’était pas un novice. Descendant de politiciens guadeloupéens par son père et ayant grandi à Paris, il a pris son temps pour se faire connaître. Après avoir été musicien de bal et chef d’orchestre de variété, il a sorti quelques singles qui ont eu peu de succès, avant de rencontrer Alain Souchon, avec qui il a connu le succès. Ce premier album révèle déjà deux influences majeures dans l’œuvre de Voulzy : ses racines guadeloupéennes et son amour pour la musique pop britannique et américaine des années 60. Malgré quelques imperfections, cet album a mis en lumière son talent, qu’il a continué à affiner par la suite.

When his first album was released in 1979, Laurent Voulzy, already thirty years old, was no newcomer. Descendant of Guadeloupean politicians on his father’s side and raised in Paris, he took his time to make himself known. After working as a ballroom musician and a variety orchestra conductor, he released a few singles that had little success before meeting Alain Souchon, with whom he achieved success. This first album already reveals two major influences in Voulzy’s work: his Guadeloupean roots and his love for British and American pop music from the 1960s. Despite some imperfections, this album highlighted his talent, which he continued to refine in the years that followed.
