À seulement 18 ans, Lio a fait ses débuts avec un album 33 tours en 1980, portée par le succès de son audacieux single “Le Banana Split”. Élevée en Belgique après avoir déménagé du Portugal à l’âge de six ans, elle a eu du mal avec les barrières linguistiques et les sentiments d’isolement. Son entrée dans la musique a été facilitée par Eric-Pierre Verwilghen, également connu sous le nom de Hagen Dierks ou Jacques Duvall, qui travaillait dans une médiathèque à Bruxelles et collaborait avec Jay Alanski. Ensemble, ils ont écrit des chansons, espérant trouver la bonne chanteuse, ce qui a donné naissance à environ quarante pistes.
At just 18, Lio made her debut with a 33 RPM album in 1980, propelled by the success of her daring single “Le Banana Split.” Raised in Belgium after moving from Portugal at age six, she grappled with language barriers and feelings of isolation. Her entry into music was facilitated by Eric-Pierre Verwilghen, also known as Hagen Dierks or Jacques Duvall, who worked at a Brussels media library and collaborated with Jay Alanski. Together, they wrote songs, hoping to find the right vocalist, resulting in the creation of about forty tracks.
