Created and performed by the Teatre de la Carrièra, the play Bogre de Carnaval tells a story of life and death, a story of everyday life, that of Antoni Testanboi and Marion, the story of their love, marriage, the birth and upbringing of their child, their troubled marriage, Antoni’s illness, and the final death of their relationship. To bring this play to life, members of the Teatre de la Carrièra explored the carnival tradition as a contribution to the struggle led by the Occitan movement in the 1970s to create a show inspired by the liberating and subversive forces that run through Carnaval. To this end, investigations were carried out in Languedoc and Provence to collect the songs presented in the show. These songs were reinterpreted to capture the spirit of Carnaval and deliver it to the audience with all its flavor, potential for contestation, and freedom. This record was published by the Ventadorn label in 1978.
