In the realm of British Folk/Rock, Maddy Prior stands as the undisputed figurehead following Sandy Denny’s untimely passing in 1978. Throughout the 1990s, she remained active, releasing her latest solo album “Year” in 1993 and the 15th original album by Steeleye Span, “Tonight’s the Night,” in 1992. Maddy Prior, the sole ever-present member of the group, currently resides in northern England near the Scottish border. Her career began with Tim Hart as a traditional folk duo in the late 1960s. Steeleye Span’s journey has seen various line-up changes, but it stabilized with the sextet of Prior, Hart, Knight, Johnson, Kemp, and Pegrum, resulting in their most stable and popular formation. They achieved significant commercial success, including a Top 10 hit album “All Around My Hat.” While Steeleye Span continued their journey with various line-up changes, Maddy Prior pursued a successful solo career and collaborated with renowned artists, leaving a significant mark on the folk music landscape.
