Baptisé du nom de Fran McKendree, originaire du Connecticut, le quatuor basé à Columbus, Mckendree Spring, composé également de Martin Slutsky, Larry Tucker et Michael ‘Doc’ Dreyfuss, a entamé une résidence au Bitter End de New York en 1969. Leur mélange de country, de blues et de folk s’est développé au fil des années sur le circuit nord-américain, bien que leurs réussites d’enregistrement soient quelque peu éclipsées par des têtes d’affiche telles que The Everly Brothers et James Taylor. Des tournées avec Frank Zappa/Mothers Of Invention, Billy Preston et Average White Band ont suivi. Leur premier album éponyme (1969) a ouvert la voie à Second Thoughts (1970), qui a percé dans le Top 200, avec des reprises de chansons telles que ‘No Regrets’ de Tom Rush, ‘John Wesley Harding’ de Bob Dylan et ‘Fire And Rain’ de James Taylor.

Named after Fran McKendree from Connecticut, the Columbus-based quartet Mckendree Spring, including Martin Slutsky, Larry Tucker, and Michael ‘Doc’ Dreyfuss, started a residency at NY’s Bitter End venue in 1969. Their blend of country, blues, and folk developed over years on the North American circuit, with recording achievements somewhat overshadowed by headliners like The Everly Brothers and James Taylor. Tours with Frank Zappa/Mothers Of Invention, Billy Preston, and Average White Band followed. Their self-titled debut (1969) paved the way for the Top 200-breaking Second Thoughts (1970), featuring covers of Tom Rush’s ‘No Regrets,’ Bob Dylan’s ‘John Wesley Harding,’ and James Taylor’s ‘Fire And Rain.’
