Although the world of French progressive rock is largely unknown today, it was nevertheless vibrant in the 1970s and continues to evolve. It was characterized by experimentation, symphonic, jazzy and theatrical sounds. While Ange was considered a pioneer in this category, two other groups stood out – although they are only the tip of the iceberg: Atoll and Mona Lisa. They had begun to make their mark with Grimaces, but it was their third album, Le Petit violon de Mr. Grégoire, that cemented their music.
