Yves & Gilles, a relatively lesser-known French folk duo composed of the brothers Gilles and Yves Leveque, released their only album under the name “Mosaique Yves et Gilles” in 1979. The album primarily features gentle songs with a touch of the French chanson style, but it also incorporates elements of Bossa Nova, which had made its way to France through Pierre Barouh. The overall atmosphere is quite effective, though the recorded works lack a distinctiveness. In such a context, “B1” deserves attention. It is a very French song with its organic psychedelic folk groove, where the melodies of violin and flute intertwine with the subtle, steady beat of the drums and the bass carves out thick, resonant lines.
