Depuis leur reformation en 1979, Roxy Music n’a pas vraiment impressionné. Touchés par le syndrome des années 80, Ferry et ses collègues ont livré deux albums médiocres aux chansons fades, abandonnant leurs soli déjantés pour jouer les accompagnateurs discrets. Alors que peu de fans attendent quelque chose de ce nouvel album, “Avalon” surprend agréablement. Tout en conservant le style dansant et glamour des précédents disques, il offre une profondeur inattendue. Les chansons romantiques, portées par la voix suave de Ferry, sont complétées par des morceaux hypnotiques et expérimentaux, marquant une conclusion magnifique à la carrière de Roxy Music.

Since their reformation in 1979, Roxy Music hasn’t really impressed. Affected by the 80s syndrome, Ferry and his colleagues delivered two mediocre albums with bland songs, abandoning their wild solos to play discreet accompanists. While few fans expect anything from this new album, “Avalon” pleasantly surprises. While retaining the dancing, glamorous style of previous records, it offers unexpected depth. The romantic songs, carried by Ferry’s smooth voice, are complemented by hypnotic and experimental tracks, marking a beautiful conclusion to Roxy Music’s career.
