Après la perte de Sam & Dave, dont la carrière n’a jamais vraiment récupéré après la rupture avec Stax Records, Isaac Hayes et David Porter ont décidé de retrouver la formule hautement soul, optant cette fois-ci non pas pour un duo, mais pour un quatuor. Dotés des voix rugueuses et puissantes de J. Blackfoot et du style sobre et authentique de Norman West, les deux hommes ont été associés aux chanteuses de soul tout aussi puissantes, Shelbra Bennett et Anita Louis. Ainsi sont nés The Soul Children, et bien que n’ayant jamais connu le succès commercial de Sam & Dave, ce quatuor a enregistré un soul du Sud intense et onctueux comparable aux enregistrements les plus passionnés du Dynamic Duo.

Following the departure of Sam & Dave, whose career never fully recovered after parting ways with Stax Records, Isaac Hayes and David Porter sought to revive the soulful formula. This time, they opted for a quartet instead of a duo. The gritty and powerful vocals of J. Blackfoot, combined with the understated and down-home style of Norman West, formed the core of the group. They were complemented by the equally powerful soul singers Shelbra Bennett and Anita Louis. Thus, The Soul Children emerged. Although not achieving the same commercial success as Sam & Dave, this foursome delivered heavy, greasy Southern fried soul comparable to the Dynamic Duo’s most intense recordings.
