Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes were known for their electrifying live performances, and while they released several excellent records, their true power was in their live shows. In 1981, Mercury concluded their deal with the band by releasing the double-live album “Reach Up & Touch the Sky.” This recording captures the Jukes at their peak, with Johnny Lyon as an exceptional frontman. The album smartly selects tracks from their catalog, featuring their best songs from both Epic and Mercury albums, as well as some fantastic cover songs. Highlights include their soulful renditions of Sam Cooke’s classics and an extended, high-energy performance of “The Fever.” “Reach Up & Touch the Sky” may not match the live experience, but it’s a strong representation of the band’s energy and spirit, making it a true rock & roll party.
