Donald Fagen and Walter Becker crafted numerous exceptional light-rock tracks with a touch of soulfulness, and several of these songs are featured on this compilation album, including “Hey Nineteen,” “Deacon Blues,” and “Black Cow.” Their unique style manages to convey their messages explicitly without sacrificing the songs’ charm. Steely Dan is credited for ten out of the twelve tracks on the album, while the other two are Donald Fagen selections taken from movie soundtracks. However, these two tracks lack the same impact as the other compositions.
