Après un premier album prometteur mais peu remarqué, les Doobie Brothers auraient pu abandonner. Mais ils ont persisté, revenant l’année suivante encore plus forts avec deux nouveaux membres. Tiran Porter a remplacé Dave Shogren à la basse, tandis que Michael Hossack a rejoint John (Little John) Hartman à la batterie, offrant au groupe une double frappe distinctive. Leur album suivant, Toulouse Street, témoigne de cette évolution vers un son plus rock tout en conservant des nuances de country-blues, avec des titres comme “Rockin’ Down The Highway” et “Listen To The Music” devenant des incontournables. Bien que certaines pistes puissent sembler moins marquantes, l’ensemble confirme le talent des Doobie Brothers pour créer des morceaux mémorables, méritant amplement leur statut de trois étoiles.

After a promising but largely unnoticed debut album, the Doobie Brothers could have given up. However, they persevered, returning the following year even stronger with two new members. Tiran Porter replaced Dave Shogren on bass, while Michael Hossack joined John (Little John) Hartman on drums, providing the group with a distinctive dual percussion. Their subsequent album, Toulouse Street, reflects this evolution towards a more rock-oriented sound while still retaining shades of country-blues, with tracks like “Rockin’ Down The Highway” and “Listen To The Music” becoming staples. Although some tracks may seem less standout, the overall album confirms the Doobie Brothers’ talent for crafting memorable songs, deserving their three-star rating.
