This album marked a pivotal moment for the band as they transitioned into a more mature phase. Prior to ‘Aftermath,’ the Stones were known more for their image and rebellious conduct than their music, often overshadowing their R&B and blues covers. However, under the guidance of manager Andrew Loog Oldham, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were locked in a kitchen until they penned their own song, “As Tears Go By,” initiating their journey as songwriters. With the evolving landscape of mid-’60s pop music, the Stones found their niche by blending blues roots with pop and rock, crafting their distinctive sound. ‘Aftermath’ showcased their musical prowess and songwriting skills, with standout tracks like “Mother’s Little Helper,” “Under My Thumb,” and “Paint It Black.” Despite Brian Jones’s creative contributions, his role within the band diminished due to drug dependencies.
