William Sheller released three albums within three years, which brought sudden notoriety and considerable trouble to the artist, who does not actively seek attention. He left France and moved to the United States to escape the media frenzy and returned to anonymity. Three years later, he released “Nicolas,” preceded by two singles, “Fier et fou de vous” and “Oh! J’cours tout seul,” which are now considered French variety classics. “Nicolas” features a more personal and romantic melody, and “Petit comme un caillou” is an intimate and unforgettable ballad. Sheller returns to his roots with two instrumental tracks, “Promenade française” and “Le petit Schubert est malade,” while “Un peu de Boogie Woogie sur les bords,” “J’ose pas,” “Quand j’étais à vos genoux,” “Une étonnante européenne,” and “Billy nettoie son saxophone” are less memorable tracks. Despite being different in composition and production, “Nicolas” has the same qualities and flaws as his previous albums.
